Many people will remember the confusion surrounding the 2023 municipal elections, particularly for British nationals, who were given only a very short period in which to register and faced a complicated process involving multiple forms and strict deadlines. Although registration should be more straightforward this time, we must not become complacent.

Foreign residents are a vital part of the local community, and it is important that we exercise our democratic right to vote in municipal elections. Our voices matter, and active participation helps ensure that the needs and concerns of Casares’s international community are properly represented.

Being invited to community events and celebrations is welcome, but genuine inclusion also means having a say in the decisions that affect our everyday lives — from infrastructure, public services and urban planning to the environment and local investment.

To help residents understand and navigate the process, we have launched a new website and social media initiative: Casares Extranjeros.

The project will provide clear, practical information about how municipal elections in Spain work, who is eligible to vote, how to register on the electoral census, the important deadlines to remember and what to expect on polling day.
